Taylor Lewan Recalls Confrontation With T.J. Watt After Spitting Incident
NFL Feud: Taylor Lewan Reveals Details of Spitting Incident wiht T.J.Watt
Former Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan recently shed light on a heated encounter with Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt, revealing the events that led to a now-infamous spitting incident in 2017.
Lewan, known for his outspoken personality, detailed the story on his podcast, “Bussin’ with the Boys.” The incident occurred during a Thursday Night Football game where the Steelers dominated the Titans, with a final score of 40-17.
“It’s [2017], we’re getting our ass beat,” Lewan recalled. “This is when [Antonio Brown] caught the ball on his head. He was going crazy against us. T.J. Watt, rookie, he rushes the edge, I say something to him, he says ‘You’re a pussy, look at the scoreboard.’ And I spit, and it hit him in the forehead.”
The incident, wich had been rumored for years, involved Watt and fellow Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree allegedly challenging Lewan to a fight after the game.
“They were like, ‘After the game, meet us outside the buses,'” Lewan said.”I walked out there, and I just waited by the buses, and I saw them walk out together, and I’m like, ‘I’m about to get my ass beat after a football game.’ They kept walking, thank God.”
While the situation didn’t escalate to a physical altercation, Lewan’s actions sparked controversy. Spitting on an opponent is considered highly unsportsmanlike conduct in the NFL.
A Moment of Regret?
Lewan has previously expressed remorse for spitting on Watt, and his recent comments suggest a deeper understanding of the incident’s gravity.
“Trash talk happens during games, but spitting on a person is so childish,” Lewan admitted. “I let my emotions get the better of me, and I took things too far.”
Moving On
Despite the tension, both players have seemingly moved on from the incident. Watt, now a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is focused on leading the Steelers to another Super Bowl run.
The incident serves as a reminder of the intense emotions that can arise in the heat of competition, even in a sport known for its physicality. While trash talk is commonplace, Lewan’s actions crossed a line, highlighting the importance of sportsmanship and respect, even in the face of defeat.
NFL Feud: Taylor Lewan, T.J. Watt and the Spitting Incident
Sarah: Hey Alex, did you hear about that old story with Taylor Lewan spitting on T.J. Watt? It resurfaced becuase Lewan talked about it on his podcast.
Alex: No way! I knew ther was some bad blood between them, but I had no idea it got that intense. What happened?
Sarah: Apparently, it all went down in 2017 during a Thursday Night football game. The Steelers were crushing the Titans, and tensions were high. Lewan saeid Watt got in his face and called him a pussy. Lewan, well, he didn’t take it too well and spit right at Watt!
Alex: Wow, that’s crazy! I can’t believe he actually did that. What did Watt do?
Sarah: He wasn’t happy, obviously. Rumor has it he and Bud Dupree, another Steelers linebacker, wanted too confront Lewan after the game. Lewan said he waited by the buses but they just walked past. So, thankfully, it didn’t turn into a full-on brawl.
Alex: That’s good. I mean spitting on somebody is pretty low, even on the football field. Do you think there’s still any bad blood between them?
Sarah: Lewan has apparently expressed remorse for the incident, saying it was childish and let his emotions get the best of him. He seems to have put it behind him. Watt, being a three-time DPOY, is probably just focused on winning another Super Bowl. Maybe they’ll even shake hands before a game someday.
alex: I hope so. It’s a good reminder that even in the most intense competition, there’s a line you don’t cross.
