Taylor Swift has tapped actors Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell to star in her upcoming music video for the single Patient Zero, which will make its world premiere on Sunday, September 26, at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles. Swift directed the cinematic project, which features cinematography by Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki.

The music video drops on Sunday, September 26, coinciding with the release of The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. This expanded edition of Swift’s twelfth studio album includes four new tracks written after the original record’s debut last year: Patient Zero, Cleveland!, Pink Clouding, and Babylon. Swift shared a 13-second teaser of the video on her social media accounts and through CBS Mornings on Thursday.
Teaser Breakdown and Visual Style
The cinematic preview opens with Swift looking into a bathroom mirror before she and Johnson are shown mirroring each other across a sink, diving into a swimming pool, and standing together at a graveside. Another shot shows Farrell stepping away from a luxury car. A subsequent frame captures Swift crying, which highlights her engagement ring from NFL star Travis Kelce, whom she married in July. All three central figures later appear together dressed in black, with Johnson staring at Farrell as Swift walks toward the camera.

The Patient Zero video will air during Sunday’s ceremony at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT on CBS, with a simulcast on MTV and streaming availability on Paramount+. During the event, Swift will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honours, an award recognizing artists whose work behind the camera has advanced visual storytelling in music videos.
