Taylor swift’s ‘Reputation’ album Reclaims Top 5 Spot After Ownership victory
Updated June 9, 2025
Taylor Swift’s Reputation has surged back into the Billboard 200, landing at Number Five. This resurgence follows Swift’s declaration that she now owns her entire catalog of music. The album, initially released in 2017, previously held the Number One spot for four weeks and has spent a total of 349 weeks on the chart.
Before securing ownership, Reputation ranked at Number 78.according to Variety, the album experienced an 1,184% increase in sales and a 125% increase in streaming, equating to 34.75 million streams.
Fans are now enjoying Reputation without guilt, as Swift now possesses the masters. She acquired the album, along with her first five albums, from Shamrock Capital, which had previously obtained them after Big Machine Records sold her catalog to Scooter Braun. Swift responded by re-recording her albums to diminish their value.
Swift is now contemplating how to approach Reputation (Taylor’s Version), especially compared to her re-recordings of 1989, Speak Now, Fearless, and Red. In a letter to fans,Swift admitted,”I haven’t even re-recorded a quarter of it.”
Swift explained, “The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it… To be perfectly honest, it’s the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it… So I kept putting it off.”
Swift hinted at releasing unreleased tracks planned for the re-recording. “There will be a time (if you’re into the idea) for the unreleased Vault tracks from that album to hatch,” she stated. She also mentioned having completely re-recorded her debut album and expressed her satisfaction with the new sound.
What’s next
Swift may release vault tracks from Reputation and her debut album when the time is right.
