Taylor Swift’s “Opalite” Music Video Draws Inspiration from Graham Norton Show Appearance

Taylor Swift’s new music video for “Opalite,” released Friday, February 6, 2026, is a star-studded homage to 1980s infomercials, born from a casual conversation during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. The video, currently available on Spotify and Apple Music for a 48-hour exclusive before its YouTube debut, features a diverse cast of celebrities who were also guests on the British talk show last October.

The video centers around Swift portraying a woman seeking happiness, initially finding solace only in a pet rock. Her life takes an unexpected turn after discovering Opalite, a product promising transformation with a single spray. The spray leads her to connect with a “Lonely Boy,” played by Domhnall Gleeson, whose only companion was an injury-inducing cactus.

What begins as separate lives of solitude – karaoke for her, solo movie visits for him – blossoms into a shared journey of connection. The couple soon finds themselves competing in karaoke contests dressed in sparkling tracksuits and enjoying outings together, all thanks to the transformative power of Opalite.

The video isn’t just a two-person story; it’s peppered with cameos from fellow guests of the Graham Norton show. Greta Lee appears as an “Indie Rock Goddess” seen on television, Lewis Capaldi embodies “The Greatest Mall Photographer to Ever Do It,” and Jodie Turner-Smith is the aspirational “Aerobics Dream Girl.” Cillian Murphy lends his voice and likeness as the official spokesperson for Opalite, while Graham Norton himself plays the salesman for a competing product, “Nope-alite,” designed to reverse the effects of Opalite.

According to Swift, the idea for the video originated from a lighthearted comment made by Gleeson during the live broadcast. “When we were all talking during the broadcast, Domhnall made a light hearted joke about wanting to be in one of my music videos,” Swift shared in an Instagram post. “He’s Irish! He was joking! Except that in that moment during the interview, I was instantly struck with an *idea*.”

She continued, explaining her vision to include all of her fellow guests from the show. “I had this thought that it would be wild if all of our fellow guests on the Graham Norton show that night, including Graham himself, could be a part of it too. Like a school group project but for adults and it isn’t mandatory.” To her delight, all those invited participated, “time travel[ing] back to the ’90s with us” to help bring the concept to life.

The video, shot on film, also includes nods to Swift’s Eras Tour. “Opalite” is the second single from Swift’s latest Republic album, The Life of a Showgirl, following the success of “The Fate of Ophelia.”

The concept of “Opalite” also introduces a potential plot twist: a store selling “Reverse Opalite,” a product that threatens to undo the connections forged by the original spray, potentially causing partners to disappear.
