AEW broadcaster Taz recently shared his more modest,yet equally ambitious,early career goals on Rob Van Dam’s podcast,”1 Of A Kind.” He focused on making a living, winning a championship, and wrestling in his hometown.
Taz, a prominent AEW broadcaster, aimed for three key achievements when starting his wrestling career. His aspirations included financial stability in the wrestling business, securing any championship title, and performing at Madison Square Garden.
Before achieving wrestling success, Taz worked blue-collar jobs, including digging holes as a railroad trackman. He balanced this with gym workouts and independent wrestling shows during his vacation time.After about seven years, Taz made a living solely from professional wrestling. He secured his first title, the IWCCW Light Heavyweight Championship, in 1991, holding it for 204 days.In 2000, he debuted in WWE at madison Square Garden, defeating kurt Angle.
“When I was young and breaking into the business, I had three goals. I wanted to make a living at the business… I wanted to hold some type of championship… and I wanted to wrestle in my hometown, obviously New York City, but in Madison Square Garden one time,” taz said.
