TCU Football: New Helmets for Dublin Game vs. UNC
TCU Football to Sport Clover-Themed Helmets in Ireland Game
TCU football will unveil a special helmet design when they face North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland, on . The helmets feature the university’s iconic Horned Frog mascot clutching a four-leaf clover in its mouth, a nod to the game’s location and a tribute to a historic helmet design.
The new helmet design is an homage to the 2011 Horned Frogs’ Rose Bowl helmet, according to TCU Athletics. In 2011, the team sported helmets adorned with roses to commemorate their appearance in the Rose Bowl game. This time, the rose has been replaced with a clover, symbolizing Ireland’s association with the lucky charm.
The game against North Carolina is a rematch of a contest held in 2025, where TCU defeated the Tar Heels 48-14. According to reports, North Carolina will be seeking revenge on the field.
This isn’t the first time TCU has customized its helmets for a special game. The Athletic’s David Ubben noted the team employed a similar strategy when they played Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. The practice of tailoring helmet designs to reflect the game’s location has become a tradition for the program.
The Aer Lingus College Football Classic, as the game is officially known, marks the sixth edition of the event. Last year’s game saw Iowa State defeat Kansas State 24-21. It will be TCU’s first time playing a game in Ireland.
TCU, led by head coach Sonny Dykes, is coming off a successful 2025 season that included nine wins and a victory over No. 16 USC in the Alamo Bowl. Dykes has led the program to more wins (36) over the past four seasons than any other program in the Big 12.
Fans can purchase gear featuring the new “Clover Frog” helmet design in preparation for the trip to Dublin. Single-game tickets for the opener remain available through TCU, and season ticket renewals are currently underway.
As of now, North Carolina has not announced whether they will also be sporting a special helmet or uniform design for the game in Dublin.
