Jakarta – The indonesian government has moved to quell concerns regarding teacher availability for the vital “People’s School” (Sekolah Rakyat) program, emphasizing that a robust pool of qualified educators remains in place despite reports of some teachers stepping down. Coordinating Minister for Community empowerment, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, stated that the Directorate of Primary adn secondary Education possesses a substantial number of teachers, ensuring the program’s continuity.
Addressing Teacher shortages: A Proactive Approach
Minister Iskandar highlighted the notable number of educators who have successfully completed the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program. This large cohort, he explained, provides a strong foundation for the People’s School initiative, which is designed to support children from disadvantaged families.
“There is no problem because the number of teachers at the Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education is very large,” Minister Iskandar commented at the gelora Bung Karno area. “those who have completed PPG are in ample supply; so, God willing, we will never run out of teachers for People’s School.”
The Role of PPG Graduates
the PPG program is a key component in ensuring a high standard of teaching across Indonesia. Graduates of this program are equipped with specialized pedagogical skills and knowledge, making them ideal candidates for programs like Sekolah Rakyat that require dedicated and well-trained educators. The ample supply of these qualified individuals directly addresses potential gaps in teacher numbers.
A Contingency Plan: Over 50,000 Ready Replacements
Further reinforcing the government’s confidence, minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, revealed that over 50,000 teachers who have completed their PPG process are ready to be deployed. This significant reserve pool ensures that any teacher vacancies can be filled promptly.
“Many are ready to step in, as there are over 50 thousand teachers who have completed the PPG process but have not yet been placed,” Minister Yusuf stated.
Understanding Teacher Resignations
The Ministry acknowledged that approximately 140 out of 1,500 teachers in the People’s School program have resigned. The primary reason cited for these departures is the considerable travel distance between their assigned schools and their residences. The government expressed understanding and respect for these decisions, recognizing the practical challenges faced by educators.
“So, God willing, we respect those who have resigned, as most of them have reasons of long distances from their residence,” Minister iskandar added.
Ensuring Program Continuity and Inclusivity
The proactive measures, including the large pool of PPG-certified teachers and the understanding approach to resignations, underscore the government’s commitment to the success of the People’s School program. This program plays a crucial role in providing educational opportunities to vulnerable children, and its stability is paramount.
The government’s assurance of sufficient teacher availability, backed by concrete numbers and contingency plans, solidifies the People’s School program’s operational integrity. This commitment ensures that the program will continue to serve its intended beneficiaries effectively, making it a lasting resource for educational equity in Indonesia.
