Talent Director Tee Lindsay Shares His Coming Out Story

For manny, understanding and accepting their sexuality is a lifelong journey. Tee Lindsay,a freelance talent director,knew he was attracted to men as early as second grade.By fifth grade, he had a clearer understanding of his feelings. however, growing up in a religious household presented unique challenges to his journey of self-revelation and embracing his identity as a gay Black man.
Lindsay’s biggest fear was disappointing his family. he also worried about potential bullying from classmates. These concerns led him to internalize his feelings for years. he eventually confided in his best friend, Tymisha Gray, who offered unwavering support.
Lindsay did not have the opportunity to come out to his family on his own terms. He was outed by a member of their church. The revelation was met with yelling, tears, and prayers, Lindsay said. His parents expressed feeling hurt that he had kept such a significant part of his life hidden.
Initially shocked, Lindsay soon felt a sense of relief. “I think my subconscious was hoping it happened as after I didn’t really have anything to hide from anyone; it was all out there in the open,” Lindsay said. Since then,he reports a positive shift in his relationship with his family.
Navigating societal pressures, especially within the church, also presented hurdles. Lindsay felt compelled to conceal his true self, influenced by other queer individuals who remained closeted. This pressure resurfaced when he entered the entertainment industry.He felt he needed to downplay his identity.However, with time and experiance, Lindsay has grown pleasant and confident in who he is.
Today, Lindsay embraces living authentically.”It feels amazing, but I do think I always knew I’d eventually be living out loud and proud,” Lindsay said. He added that he is someone who can only tolerate being uncomfortable for so long, and that he has painted a pretty picture of living his truth.

Lindsay plans to continue advocating for LGBTQ+ visibility and acceptance within the entertainment industry and beyond, hoping to inspire others to embrace their true selves.
