Swedish Teen Arrested in Australia for Alleged Murder-for-Hire Plot
A 15-year-old Swedish boy was apprehended in Sydney, Australia, this week following a collaborative inquiry between Danish adn Australian law enforcement agencies. The teenager is suspected of attempting to recruit individuals for contract killings in Denmark and sweden, allegedly on behalf of a criminal network.
Arrest Follows Danish Tip-Off
The arrest occurred after Danish police alerted their Australian counterparts to the presence of a Swedish national residing in australia. They suspected the teen’s involvement in orchestrating criminal activities, specifically the recruitment of individuals for hire in Denmark and Sweden.
Authorities describe this type of criminal activity as “crime-as-a-service,” where individuals or groups outsource illicit tasks to third parties. These arrangements often utilize encrypted platforms and social media for planning and execution.
Australian police executed a search warrant at a Sydney residence, leading to the 15-year-old’s arrest. He was subsequently denied bail and remains in custody, according to a press release from Australian authorities.
During the search, police seized several electronic devices, which are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
Nordic Gang Conflict Link Suspected
The Swedish teenager is formally accused of plotting a murder through digital dialog, with the intended location being Denmark.
Lars Feldt-Rasmussen, from Danish Kripos, stated that the suspect, while residing in Australia, allegedly attempted to recruit individuals to carry out contract killings in Denmark and Sweden, linked to ongoing gang conflicts in the Nordic region.
Danish police believe the 15-year-old is connected to a criminal network actively involved in the escalating gang violence within Nordic countries.
According to Danish police, the arrest has disrupted a key recruitment node within the network.
“But we’re not done yet,” stated a Danish police official. “We are also pursuing those we suspect of controlling the 15-year-old.”
Rise of youth Involvement in swedish crime
The involvement of increasingly younger individuals in gang-related violence has become a meaningful concern in Sweden. The term “child soldiers” is sometimes used to describe the youngest recruits.
The Swedish Parliament has debated measures to combat this trend, including proposals to introduce zero tolerance against child soldiers.
Recent years have witnessed a surge in cases involving young boys, and occasionally girls, being recruited to commit violent acts on behalf of criminal gangs.
This trend is reflected in the rising number of murder and attempted murder cases involving suspects aged 15 to 20.
While Sweden has experienced the most acute increase in youth-related gang violence, Norway and Denmark have also seen instances of young swedes being hired to carry out serious violent crimes.
Figures from the Swedish Prosecution Authority indicate a sharp increase in the number of murder or attempted murder charges against teenagers aged 15 to 17. According to data obtained by SVT, there were five such charges in 2012. During the frist nine months of 2023, that number had risen to 84.The average from 2019 to 2023 was approximately 53.8 per year.
Many of these cases are believed to be connected to ongoing gang conflicts.
Law enforcement officials note that the leaders of these criminal networks often operate from abroad, issuing orders for killings and other serious acts of violence.
A significant portion of this activity is linked to the Foxtrot network. Rawa Majid’s organization is suspected of orchestrating gang-related shootings and acts of terror on behalf of Iran. This has prompted sanctions from both the United Kingdom and the United States against Foxtrot and Majid.
