Teen Sensation Sakamoto Leads Charge: Four Players Secure Japan Open Qualifying Wildcards
Rei Sakamoto Announces Professional Turn, Receives Wild Card for Japan Open Tennis Championships
Rei Sakamoto announced his professional turn on September 20th. The Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships 2024, which will begin on September 25th, has granted Sakamoto a wild card for the singles qualifying rounds.
The singles qualifying rounds for this tournament will be held on September 23rd and 24th, with the main tournament starting on September 25th. The singles final is scheduled for October 1st.
Wild cards for the singles qualifying rounds were also granted to Yasutaka Uchiyama (world ranked 160th) and Yosuke Watanuki (world ranked 342nd). The wild cards for the doubles main draw were also announced, with the previously announced Kei Nishikori/Sakamoto pair and Yoshihito Nishioka/Kaito Uesugi pair receiving the organizers’ recommendation.
Wild cards for the singles main draw have been given to three players: Nishikori, Shintaro Mochizuki, and Yoshihito Nishioka, so many Japanese players will be in action at Ariake.
