Teen’s Insatiable Thirst: 9 Liters of Water a Day Sparks Fears of Rare Brain Disorder
Unusual Symptoms in a 16-Year-Old Boy Lead to Brain Tumor Diagnosis
A 16-year-old boy from Guangzhou, China, named Bin Bin (pseudonym), exhibited unusual symptoms, including drinking 9 liters of water a day and having a habit of eating non-stop.
Bin Bin’s father noticed these unusual behaviors during the summer break in 2021 and was worried that his son might have kidney problems or diabetes. However, the health test results at that time came back normal, and Bin Bin’s water consumption decreased, resulting in no further treatment.
After that, Bin Bin’s behavior became abnormal, and he became easily irritable. Initially, his family thought it was depression during his teenage years, but after several months, the symptoms did not improve. Bin Bin started having vision problems, which caused him to trip and fall often.
After seeing the doctor multiple times, Bin Bin was finally diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Brain Tumor Diagnosis and Treatment
Bin Bin’s father described his son’s behavior as completely changed, stating, “The behavior is not the same at all. You have to keep an eye on him at all times. Because I don’t know what he’s going to do in the next second.”
In May 2023, Bin Bin was taken to a brain hospital and was diagnosed with a mixed germ cell tumor.
After the operation, there were still signs of recurrence, as well as endocrine disorders and lung infections. This caused Bin Bin to constantly have fevers, swelling, and irritability.
After receiving 4 radiation treatments, Bin Bin’s body temperature returned to normal, his mood began to stabilize, and his water intake dropped to about 3 liters a day.
Warning Signs of Brain Tumors
The doctor warned that for patients with germ cell tumors in the central part of the brain, such as Bin Bin, the symptoms are typically:
- Drinking plenty of water
- Frequent urination
- Decreased vision
- Endocrine system disorders
If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms, it is essential to consult a doctor immediately.
