Iran official Slams Germany, France Over Israel Comments
Updated June 16, 2025
Tehran – An Iranian Foreign Ministry official has sharply criticized Germany and France over their positions on the ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, as well as Iran’s nuclear program.Esmaeil Baghaei, a spokesman for the ministry, used social media to voice his concerns.
Baghaei took to X on Saturday to contrast Iran’s dedication to humanitarian principles with what he described as Germany’s history of aggression. He suggested German officials should “stay silent” regarding the current conflict. He referenced Germany’s role in instigating two world wars, while highlighting Iran’s past sheltering of Jewish refugees during World War II.
The Iranian official’s remarks followed condemnation from German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul regarding Iran’s response to Israel and allegations that iran’s nuclear program violates the non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The NPT is an international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology.
Baghaei also addressed French president Emmanuel Macron in a separate post, accusing him of distorting Iran’s nuclear activities while Israel allegedly attacks Iranian targets. he called it “shameful” that Macron would focus on Iran’s nuclear program at a time when Israel is accused of violating international law by bombing homes and killing Iranians.
Macron had previously claimed that Iran’s nuclear program was nearing a critical phase. Tensions remain high in the region following reported Israeli actions within Iran, which prompted Iran to exercise its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter with retaliatory strikes.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, stated that Israel had made a “big mistake” and would face severe consequences. He affirmed that the Iranian Armed Forces would strongly support the nation and deliver meaningful blows to what he termed the “criminal regime.” The ongoing Iran-Israel conflict and Iran nuclear program remain key concerns.
What’s next
The international community is closely watching for further developments and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation and address concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The role of international mediators will be crucial in the coming weeks.
