Fukuoka School of Medical Technology Student Wins Outstanding Research Presentation Award
Recognized for Innovative Educational System in Radiation Therapy
On August 24, 2024, Anzu Kawasaki, a 4th-year student at the Fukuoka School of Medical Technology, received the Outstanding Research Presentation Award at the 18th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Radiology Education. The event was held at Tokyo Metropolitan University, where Kawasaki presented a paper titled “Development of an Educational System for Water Absorption Dose Measurement Using Virtual Reality.”
Kawasaki’s research, conducted under the guidance of Hidemi Kamezawa, Associate Professor of the Department of Radiology at the Fukuoka School of Medical Technology, Teikyo University, aimed to address the challenges faced by radiological technologist training schools. Many of these schools lack sufficient equipment and tools for radiation therapy, making it difficult for students to link theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Kawasaki’s innovative educational system utilizes virtual reality to improve the effectiveness of education in radiation therapy, enhancing the learning experience and deepening knowledge.
The system, which was showcased at the event, allows students to experience water absorbed dose measurement in a simulated environment. This interactive approach increases motivation to learn and supports the development of clinical techniques. The system received widespread interest and acclaim from participants, ultimately leading to the Outstanding Research Presentation Award.
This research is expected to make a significant contribution to the future of education in radiation therapy, providing a valuable resource for training schools and students alike.
