Temporary Housing for Mount Lewotobi Eruption Victims
East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara – Temporary housing for those affected by the Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki eruption will be ready by the end of the year. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Pratikno, announced this during his visit to Konga Village. He stated that the housing must be completed quickly due to the upcoming rainy season, with plans to house refugees by Christmas and New Year.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and contractors aim to finish the temporary housing within two months. This housing will be built alongside a new permanent housing project, which will take about 5.5 months to complete.
Around 200 military officers will assist in constructing at least 400 temporary housing units for 2,079 affected families. Each unit will be completed within a week. The temporary units will be distributed in batches, with each unit accommodating up to five families.
Colonel Hery Setiono from BNPB reported that the temporary housing units will be built on two land plots in Konga Village, covering a total area of 11 hectares. Each unit will measure 6 x 18 meters, featuring a cast floor, light steel framing, and a zinc roof. The units will consist of five rooms, each designated for one family.
In addition to housing, the complex will include temporary schools, function rooms, and places of worship.
