Tennessee Lady Vols Triumph Over Middle Tennessee with Record-Setting Three-Point Performance
Tennessee Defeats Middle Tennessee, 89-75
Tennessee Lady Vols improved to 3-0 this season with a win against Middle Tennessee. They achieved this victory on Tuesday night at the Food City Center, with 9,697 fans attending the game.
The Lady Vols made 15 three-pointers, tying for second in school history. They only fell short of the school record of 16 three-pointers made against Kentucky in 2011. Tennessee attempted 42 three-pointers, setting a new school record for attempts.
Talaysia Cooper led Tennessee with her first double-double. She scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Samara Spencer followed with 17 points. Tess Darby and Sara Puckett added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
For Middle Tennessee, Courtney Blakely was the top scorer with 25 points. Anastasiia Boldyreva contributed 18 points, while Jalynn Gregory and Ta’Mia Scott each scored 13 points.
Middle Tennessee began strong, leading 4-0 early. Spencer opened the scoring for Tennessee with a three-pointer. The Lady Vols recovered, finishing the first quarter with a 23-18 lead after a 16-6 run, highlighted by Spencer’s three-pointers and Cooper’s baskets.
In the second quarter, Tennessee maintained its lead and finished the half at 41-30. The Lady Vols widened the gap to 17 points twice in the third quarter. However, Middle Tennessee managed to close the gap to 10 points by the end of the quarter.
In the fourth, Middle Tennessee cut the lead to eight, but Tennessee responded with two three-pointers from Darby, extending the lead again. Cooper helped secure the win with key baskets down the stretch.

Spencer had a standout performance in the first quarter, scoring 13 points. Cooper excelled in the third quarter, contributing 12 points to the team’s total. A total of seven Lady Vols made at least one three-pointer in the game, highlighting their shooting skills.
Tennessee’s victory continues its strong performance against in-state rivals, bringing their all-time record against four-year colleges in Tennessee to 265 wins and 62 losses. The Lady Vols have won 21 of their last 23 games versus in-state teams.
