NEW DELHI (Yonhap) — South Korea’s under-14 boys’ and girls’ tennis squads have clinched the overall championship at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Asia Championship, according to the Korea Tennis Association.Yoon Yong-il coached the boys’ team, while Lim kyu-tae led the girls.
The ITF Asian Championship, a two-week event held in New Delhi, India, consisted of two separate tournaments.
The Korean contingent excelled, securing victories in both the first and second tournaments for the boys’ singles and doubles categories. The girls added to the medal haul, winning the second tournament’s doubles event and the first tournament’s singles competition.
Wimbledon Qualification
Adding to their success, the top two male and female players from the tournament, which featured participants from 17 nations, earned coveted spots in this year’s Wimbledon 14-year-old competition. Kim Si-yun, representing Ulsan First, and Lim Ye-rin, from Cheonan TSC, will represent South Korea at the prestigious event.
Kim Si-yun showcased exceptional form, securing victories in both the first and second tournament boys’ singles events, along with a runner-up finish.
Jang Joon-seo, of Busan Base SC, and Hong Ye-ri, representing the Seoul Citennis Association, had previously secured their places at the 14-year-old Wimbledon tournament.
European touring Team Selection
Further opportunities await Kim Si-yun and Jang Joon-seo, as they have been selected to participate in the European touring Team under the age of 14 in July.
