Remembering Muirnín Murphy: A Life Celebrated in Sligo

It is indeed with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Muirnín Murphy, a cherished resident of Strandhill Road, Sligo, who passed away on July 24th, 2025, at Sligo University Hospital. Surrounded by her loving family, Muirnín’s departure marks the end of a life rich in love, family, and community. She was a beacon of warmth and kindness, deeply connected to her roots in Monaghan and her adopted home in Sligo.
A Legacy of Love and family
Muirnín’s life was a testament to the enduring power of family. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Frank, and her parents, Philip and Mary Alice. She also joins her siblings, Paurie, Seamie, Nora, Frank, and Maree, in eternal rest.
Her memory will be forever held dear by her devoted children: Philip, Catherine, Michael, and Anne Marie. She leaves behind a loving legacy through her daughters-in-law, Olivia and Eithne, and her son-in-law, Philip. Muirnín’s joy was amplified by her grandsons, Owen, Neil, and Paul, and Owen’s wife, Natalie, as well as her great-grandchildren, who brought immense happiness into her later years. She will also be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours, and a wide circle of dear friends who were touched by her generous spirit.

The community will have the possibility to pay their respects and celebrate Muirnín’s life at the following services:
Reposing and Reflection
Muirnín will be reposing at Nazareth Chapel,Church Hill,Sligo (F91DD72) on Sunday,July 27th,from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm. This will be a time for quiet reflection and sharing of memories.
Mass of the Resurrection
A Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday, July 28th, at 11:30 am. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed via www.sligocathedral.ie.
Final Resting Place
Following the Mass, Muirnín will be laid to rest in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Scarden, Strandhill Road, sligo.
