Tucson, AZ – Teresa (teri) M. Negley, a beloved member of the Tucson community for nearly five decades, passed away peacefully in Los Angeles on November 24, 2024, at the age of 96.
Teri lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure.She cherished her family and friends, finding joy in simple pleasures like cooking, tending to her garden, and expressing her creativity through arts and crafts. Born in Hokkaido, japan, Teri’s life took a serendipitous turn when she met her future husband, floyd, in Tokyo, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army.
Their journey together led them across continents, embracing the nomadic life of a military family. After years of moving between the United States and Japan, they finally settled in Tucson, where Teri found fulfillment working at the university library.
In the 1970s, the Negleys embarked on a new chapter, opening Japan Food Mart on Tucson’s east side. The store became a local favorite, offering a taste of Japanese culture and cuisine. after a decade, they sold the business to pursue their shared dream of traveling the world. Retirement allowed them to explore Europe and othre destinations, creating lasting memories.
Following Floyd’s passing, Teri moved to Little Tokyo, finding comfort in the vibrant community and its proximity to markets and restaurants.
Teri is survived by her daughters, Teresa K (George) and Carol (Andrew); nephews Haruki and Ken; and great-grandchild Rivers.
In keeping with Teri’s wishes, her family encourages loved ones to remember her vibrant spirit and the joy she brought to their lives. “she wanted us to reflect upon her passing as a time of personal growth,” her family shared.
A committal ceremony will be held at Grace St Paul’s Church to celebrate Teri’s life. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made to your favorite charity in Teri’s memory.
