Tesla’s AI Ambitions: What Happened to Dojo?
In the whirlwind of Tesla’s innovations, one name that once echoed loudly was "Dojo," the automaker’s anticipated custom supercomputer designed to fuel its autonomous driving aspirations. Yet, of late, Dojo has been notably absent from Elon Musk’s spotlight. Let’s explore where Dojo stands and where Tesla’s AI journey is headed.
Musk has long championed Dojo, billing it as the backbone of Tesla’s self-driving dreams. As recently as last month, he expressed renewed commitment: "We’ll double down on Dojo." But in the months since, Tesla’s narrative has shifted. The company’s been making waves about a new AI titan, "Cortex."
Meet Cortex, Tesla’s New AI Ambassador
In August 2024, Tesla introduced Cortex as the world’s mightiest AI-training cluster. Built at Gigafactory Texas, it’s armed with some 50,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs. Tesla claims Cortex has supercharged its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, leading to Version 13 that boasts enhanced safety, comfort, and reduced latency.
So, what about Dojo? Given Tesla’s ongoing success with AI developments, one can’t help but wonder: Has Dojo’s mission been absorbed into Cortex, or is it still a crucial ingredient in Tesla’s long-term AI plans? Only time, and perhaps Musk, will tell.
