  • Zero-interest loans and Model Y drive Norwegian demand.
  • Norway leads in EV adoption, with nearly 94% of new ⁤cars electric.

Tesla Sales Rebound in Norway, Defying ⁢european Trend

‌ ⁤ ⁤ Updated June 02,‍ 2025

Tesla ⁢is experiencing a resurgence in sales in Norway, contrasting with a decline in other European markets. Official figures released Monday highlight this divergence in consumer behavior.

The renewed interest in ⁤the U.S. brand is attributed to ⁢attractive zero-interest loan offerings and the popularity of the⁣ model Y, which has been the best-selling car in Norway for three ‌consecutive months. ⁣norway leads the world in electric vehicle (EV) adoption; EVs accounted for 93.9% of new car registrations in May,according to⁢ the norwegian Road Federation (OFV).

For ⁢the first five months of the year, electric vehicles represented 92.7% of all new‍ car registrations in the country. tesla ⁢reclaimed its position as the top-selling car brand in Norway in May, tripling its sales and capturing 18.2%‍ of ‍the new car market.

Tesla’s sales for the first five months‍ of 2024 increased by 8.3%, trailing the overall new car market’s growth of 30.6%.‍ During this period, Tesla held a 12.9% market share, placing it second⁣ behind Volkswagen.

Øyvind Solberg Thorsen, director at OFV, ⁣noted the contrast, stating, “Looking at Tesla sales in Norway‍ in May and⁤ for the year so far, we stand⁣ out from the rest of Europe, where sales‌ of this brand have seen a noticeable⁣ decline.”

In April, Tesla’s sales within the European Union plummeted by half, according to⁤ the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).⁢ the company’s EU market share fell to 1.1% amid⁣ rising‍ competition from ⁤Chinese automakers and ⁤consumer reactions to Elon Musk’s political stances and associations.

“Norwegians don’t like Musk but feel ⁢no shame owning a‌ Tesla,” said Jonathan Parr, an analyst at Rebil.

Parr told TV2⁤ that price remains the⁣ primary concern for Norwegian car buyers. Despite this, recent reports‍ in Norwegian media have detailed instances‌ of Tesla owners choosing to sell their vehicles or opting against purchasing another Tesla.

Norway, a ⁢major oil producer in Western ⁢Europe, aims for all new cars sold this year to be zero-emission‌ vehicles, ‌further⁤ incentivizing the adoption of electric cars and ⁣contributing to the Tesla sales rebound. The model Y is a key⁣ factor in this trend, ⁤solidifying Tesla’s market position.

What’s next

As Norway continues its push ⁤for zero-emission vehicles, Tesla’s performance in the coming months will be closely ⁤watched to see if ⁤it can maintain its sales momentum and further ⁢solidify its‌ position in the ‍Norwegian market.
