COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies baseball team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday night, routing Lamar University 25-5 in a game shortened by the run rule. The Aggies’ offensive explosion, fueled by five home runs and 16 walks issued by Lamar pitching, moved their season record to a perfect 8-0.
The game quickly tilted in favor of the Aggies. They scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on two wild pitches and a two-run home run by Boston Kellner. Caden Sorrell extended the lead in the second with a solo shot to center field, bringing the score to 6-0. Sorrell, returning to the lineup after missing games due to a hand injury, would later add a grand slam.
Lamar attempted to rally in the fourth inning, with Brayden Evans hitting a solo home run and Kevin Duran following with a two-run blast. However, the Aggies quickly extinguished any hope of a comeback.
The fourth inning proved to be the decisive moment, as Texas A&M exploded for 12 runs. Sorrell’s grand slam highlighted the inning, putting the game well out of reach. The offensive onslaught continued through the later innings, with the Aggies adding seven more runs before the contest was called.
The Cardinals’ pitching struggled throughout the night, with starter Gage Burdick lasting only two-thirds of an inning. Lamar issued a total of 16 walks, contributing significantly to their defeat. The Aggies’ offense was relentless, with 17 players seeing action and contributing to the high scoring output.
On the mound, Texas A&M’s Gavin Lyons delivered a solid performance, pitching four innings and allowing just one run on three hits. He struck out three and walked one, setting the tone for the Aggies’ pitching staff.
The Aggies’ lineup featured contributions from across the board. Terrence Kiel II, Caden Sorrell, Gavin Grahovac, Nico Partida and Jake Duer all reached base multiple times. Sorrell finished the night with two home runs and six RBIs, leading the offensive charge.
The victory comes ahead of a challenging weekend series for the Aggies, who will travel to Arlington to participate in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series. They are scheduled to face Virginia Tech on Friday, followed by matchups against No. 1 UCLA on Saturday and Arizona State on Sunday. All games will be played at Globe Life Field and streamed via FloCollege.
The game saw several substitutions throughout, with players like Blake LaBuda and Blake Binderup contributing with key hits in the later innings. A late rally by Lamar in the sixth and seventh innings, featuring hits from Beau Durbin and a two-run home run by Hector Rodriguez, provided a small measure of consolation for the Cardinals, but the damage was already done.
The Aggies’ offensive display was particularly impressive, hitting .545 as a team and showcasing their power-hitting potential. The team’s ability to capitalize on opportunities, combined with Lamar’s struggles on the mound, resulted in a decisive victory.
