Texas Execution: Robert Roberson Scheduled for Oct 16th

Texas Execution: Robert Roberson Scheduled for Oct 16th

July 16, 2025 Robert Mitchell News

Texas Death Row‍ Inmate Robert⁣ Roberson’s Execution Stayed‍ Amid Exoneration Claims

Dallas, ‌TX ⁣ – Robert Roberson, a Texas man facing execution for the 2005 death of his ⁣daughter, has had his execution stayed just days ⁤before⁣ he was ‌scheduled to die. The reprieve came after a group‍ of Texas lawmakers issued a subpoena for‌ Roberson ‍to testify‌ before a House committee, a move that highlighted ongoing questions ⁢about⁢ his ⁢conviction and ⁣the‌ broader issue of wrongful‌ convictions in the state.

Roberson was set to receive a lethal injection‌ on october 17, 2024, but was granted a stay of execution. This dramatic turn⁤ of⁢ events occurred while he ⁢was in a holding cell at the Polunsky⁣ Unit in Livingston, Texas, a facility known for housing⁣ the state’s death row inmates and located near the state’s busiest execution chamber.

A Last-Minute Subpoena and Legal Battles

The subpoena, issued by Texas lawmakers, aimed to have Roberson testify⁣ before a House committee. Though, the Texas Supreme Court ⁢later ruled ‍that while⁤ the subpoena was valid, it could not be used to bypass⁢ a scheduled execution. Despite this ruling, ⁢Roberson never had the prospect⁢ to speak with lawmakers, as his ⁢attorney, Lydia Sween, stated that attorney General Ken Paxton’s office‌ blocked efforts for him to⁣ do so.

“Truth is gonna come out, Robert’s‍ gonna ⁤come out on top,” Sween told reporters outside the courthouse, standing alongside several ⁢exonerated individuals. She emphasized that exonerations are‍ not rare occurrences, ⁣citing that approximately 200 peopel in ⁤the United States have been exonerated from death row after being‍ found innocent.

Ongoing Review⁣ and Support for ⁢Roberson

While Roberson’s supporters continue thier fight ⁣to prove his innocence and‍ spare his life, Dallas County has⁢ taken steps to independently review the autopsy of the victim, which was originally‍ conducted by the Dallas County Medical Examiners’‌ office. County‍ Judge ⁢Clay Jenkins confirmed ⁢that this review is currently underway.

The case of Robert Roberson brings to the forefront the critical importance of thorough investigations and ⁢the potential for‍ errors in the justice system. As ‌the legal and investigative processes continue, the focus remains on ‍uncovering ‌the⁤ truth and ensuring justice‍ for all involved.
