Texas Offers Land to Trump for Mass Deportation Operations

Texas has expressed its willingness to collaborate with President-elect Donald Trump on his plan for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. The state has offered a piece of land near the Mexico border for this purpose.

Dawn Buckingham, the state’s Land Commissioner, sent a letter to Trump on November 14, stating that the administration is a “good partner” and is ready to assist. She informed Trump about a newly acquired property in Starr County, Rio Grande Valley, which lacks paved roads, has limited resources, and includes just one hospital.

The property spans 566 acres and Buckingham emphasized its use for building a facility for processing and detaining undocumented immigrants. She stated her commitment to helping keep American families safe.

Buckingham added that if the land is deemed useful, she would love to partner with the federal government. She mentioned that they have heard unofficially that the Trump team is considering the offer.

However, Trump’s team has not confirmed this information. They reiterated their commitment to protecting the border and launching the largest deportation operation in history.

Texas firmly aligns with Republican views on expelling undocumented immigrants, an issue that is central to Trump’s electoral campaign. After winning the election, he pledged to tackle this issue from day one. This plan could affect around 11 million people.

To manage the process, Trump plans to declare a national emergency to gain extraordinary powers and involve military resources. He intends to work with Tom Homan, his choice to lead the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), known as “the border czar.”

Trump’s project has sparked division among states and local governments. While Texas is exploring aggressive measures to manage border crossings, cities like Los Angeles are positioning themselves as sanctuaries for undocumented immigrants. The Los Angeles City Council recently approved an ordinance to prevent local police from collaborating with federal immigration authorities, aiming to protect immigrant communities.
