Teyana Taylor accepted the Innovator Award at the Apollo Theater’s Spring Benefit,expressing deep gratitude to her family and team. The Harlem native reflected on her journey from a young performer to an award-winning artist.
During her acceptance speech,Taylor thanked her management,presenters Sherri shepherd and dapper Dan,and the Apollo Theater itself. She specifically acknowledged her family, including what many beleive was a reference to Aaron Pierre, for their unwavering support.
“For the village you have placed in my life — my mom, my dad, my babies, and my apple pie,” Taylor said. “I love you all so much. Thank you for loving me the way you do. I would not be the woman that I am today without you.”
Taylor also shared memories of her first performance on the Apollo stage at age 8 with a group called the Sunshine Girls. She recalled the nervousness and excitement of performing on such an iconic stage.
“It’s so amazing to be here tonight and still feel nervous, still feel the jitters,” Taylor said. “This is such an iconic stage, and I’m just so grateful.”
The event drew a star-studded crowd, including Method Man, Busta rhymes, monica, Deborah Cox, and Clive Davis. Davis, a legendary record executive, was honored with the Legacy Award and inducted into the Apollo Walk of Fame.
