Bangkok, Thailand – Thailand has issued⁤ a ​stern warning, declaring its readiness to escalate self-defense measures should Cambodia continue its alleged armed attacks and violations of Thai sovereignty.The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs⁣ stated that any further aggression would be met‍ with a robust response, conducted in strict adherence to international law and principles.

Escalating Tensions and Civilian Impact

The border situation has rapidly deteriorated, leading to ‍notable security upgrades‌ and civilian casualties. Rear ‍Admiral Surasant‍ Kongsiri, spokesperson for Thailand’s ad hoc center ​for the border situation, revealed during a press ‌briefing that three individuals sustained serious injuries, including ⁢a five-year-old boy. Tragically,one death has been reported in the Phanom‌ Dong Rak border community ⁣in Surin province.

In response to ‌the escalating violence, the ad hoc center has raised security measures from Level 2 to Level ⁢4, necessitating the complete⁢ closure ⁤of all border checkpoints along the Thai-Cambodian frontier.

“the Cambodian side has deployed heavy weapons such as BM-21 multiple ⁢rocket launchers and 122 millimeter artillery, causing damage to Thai civilian ‌homes and public facilities ⁢along the‍ border,” Kongsiri stated, highlighting the​ severity ‍of the Cambodian‍ military’s actions.

Meanwhile, Cambodia’s defense ministry‍ has strongly⁢ condemned what it termed Thailand’s⁢ “reckless and brutal military aggression,” according to reports from Reuters. this exchange of accusations underscores the deep-seated tensions along the shared border.

Life Under Fire: eyewitness Accounts

The impact of the conflict is being felt acutely by civilians living in border​ communities. Tataya Sattapanon, the deputy mayor of the border district⁢ of Tambon Ta Muen in Thailand, shared a harrowing account of her experience. Speaking to Nikkei from⁢ a⁤ bunker near her ⁤home, she explained ‌that she⁤ and ‌her neighbors were unable to reach a prepared evacuation center due to ⁣ongoing artillery fire from‌ Cambodia.

“I cannot⁤ go to⁤ the prepared evacuation center ⁣because artillery fire from Cambodia is still coming,” she said, ‍her voice strained.She ⁢recounted learning thru social media that​ artillery shells had landed near Phnom Dongrak Hospital ⁣and a 7-Eleven store, with​ the sounds of explosions continuing to echo.

In the face of these ​alarming developments,Thailand’s deputy defense minister,Gen. Nattapol Nakphanit, has pledged the thai army’s unwavering commitment to protecting the ​nation’s sovereignty.

“Thai​ people throughout the ‌country, please be assured that the​ Thai army will protect our sovereignty and​ will not allow anyone to encroach on our territory,” he declared at Government House. ‌General Nakphanit emphasized the⁣ unacceptability of Cambodia’s actions,stating,”we will not ⁢endure anymore because this is the action of the Cambodian military that ⁤we cannot accept. We ask the people to give encouragement to the personnel ‍who are on duty along the border, especially in the area of the⁤ 2nd Army.”

The situation remains volatile, with both nations trading accusations and reinforcing their defensive postures. ‍The international community watches closely as ‍the border conflict threatens to ⁢destabilize the⁤ region further.
