Political factions in Thailand are preparing competing proposals to amend the national constitution, with the Democrat Party and the Bhumjaithai Party emerging as primary contenders in the race to submit drafts to Parliament.
Abhisit Vejjajiva indicated that by the week of May 25, 2026, the Democrat Party and its allies expect to reach a consensus on the specific approach they will use to submit their constitutional amendment draft.
As part of the process, Abhisit has proposed the use of online polling to gauge public opinion and gather feedback regarding the Constitution Drafting Assembly.
Bhumjaithai Party’s Submission Goals
Simultaneously, Anutin Charnvirakul and the Bhumjaithai Party are positioning themselves to be the first political party to formally submit a draft for constitutional amendment.

Bhumjaithai leadership has dismissed claims that the party is ignoring the constitutional process, asserting that their drive to lead the submission is supported by the 21 million votes recorded in a previous referendum.
Opposition and Critical Perspectives
The Bhumjaithai Party’s approach has faced criticism from other political figures. Natthapong has stated that the Bhumjaithai draft contradicts three fundamental principles.
Natthapong expressed concerns that the proposed amendments could lead to a monopoly of power and an increased role for the Senate within the governance structure.
Other smaller political entities are also navigating these developments. The Kla Tham party has indicated that it does not intend to oppose the current direction and is seeking to collaborate with the government aligned with the Bhumjaithai Party.
