Thai Woman Sentenced to Death for Cyanide Murders of 14 Friends
Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn Sentenced to Death
Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, a 36-year-old Thai woman, has been sentenced to death. She is found guilty of murdering 14 people using cyanide over nine years. This marks her as one of Thailand’s most notorious serial killers.
Authorities reported that Sararat defrauded some of her victims. Her gambling addiction is believed to have driven her to commit these murders. Police indicated that she borrowed money and, when her victims requested repayment, she killed them.
Sararat’s ex-husband, a former police officer, and her lawyer also received prison sentences for covering up evidence in her case. They confessed to their roles before the sentencing.
Investigators began connecting the deaths to Sararat after a friend, Siriporn Khanwong, died suddenly. Surveillance footage showed them together shortly before Siriporn collapsed. An autopsy revealed cyanide in her system.
Since 2015, several others in Sararat’s circle of friends died under suspicious circumstances. Police are reviewing these past cases for potential links to her actions.
Cyanide poisoning is rarely seen, making this case particularly shocking. Recent reports indicated that six people died in July at a luxury hotel in Bangkok. Authorities suspect cyanide was involved, pointing to a broader issue of safety in the region.
Sararat maintains her innocence, despite the evidence against her. The case raises questions about gambling addiction and its potential to drive people to commit extreme acts.
