Heavy Rain Warning Issued for Thailand from September 21-23, 2024

The Meteorological Department has announced a heavy to very heavy rain warning for various regions in Thailand from September 21 to 23, 2024. This warning is due to a strong monsoon depression in the northern, central, and northeastern regions, as well as a low-pressure area covering the eastern side of the lower northern region.

Affected Regions and Dates

The following regions are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rain:

September 21, 2024

  • Northern Region: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun.
  • Northeast Region: Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces.
  • Central Region: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya provinces, including Bangkok and surrounding areas.
  • Eastern Region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces.
  • Southern Region: Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Krabi provinces.

  • Northern Region: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun.
  • Northeast Region: Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani.
  • Central Region: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Lopburi, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, including Bangkok and surrounding areas.

Wind and Wave Warning

During September 21-22, 2024, the wind waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to be strong, with waves reaching 2-3 meters high in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand. In areas with thunderstorms, waves may exceed 3 meters high. Boaters are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm areas. Small boats in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand should refrain from leaving the shore during this period.
