Sawang Janpram, a remarkable 105-year-old athlete from Thailand, recently demonstrated his athletic prowess by securing four gold medals at the World Masters Games in Taiwan. his achievements in the men’s 100-plus discus, javelin, shot put, and 100m dash highlight his dedication to fitness and healthy living.
Janpram’s daily routine begins early, around 5:30 a.m., with a nutritious breakfast followed by training at a local beach or stadium in Rayong province.accompanied by his 73-year-old daughter, Siripan, his training regimen includes walking, short sprints, and practice in javelin, discus, and shot put. This consistent training has proven highly effective for the centenarian athlete.

At the World Masters Games, Janpram stood out as the oldest competitor, virtually guaranteeing his victories in his age group. He completed the 100m sprint in an impressive 38.55 seconds.
“regular exercise, healthy food, staying in a good mood, always being calm, breathing clean air and keeping up good hygiene,” Janpram said, explaining his secret to longevity and athletic success.“If I’m sick, I go to see the doctor.”
Janpram’s passion for sports extends beyond participation. He enjoys watching boxing and admires Pone Kingpetch, Thailand’s first world boxing champion. It wasn’t until he was 97 that Janpram began competing, inspired by his daughter, Siripan, who is involved with the Thai Veteran Athletics Association.
Siripan noted that her father enjoyed the atmosphere of the competitions and the possibility to socialize with other athletes. Despite initial concerns about travel fatigue, Janpram has thrived, accumulating 78 medals across 21 games.
Both Sawang and Siripan emphasize the importance of a healthy diet, including plenty of vegetables and customary Thai dishes. Siripan believes that a lack of support is a notable barrier for older adults in Thailand who wish to exercise, highlighting the need for assistance and companionship.
What’s next
Following their success, Sawang and Siripan plan to resume training for the 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championships in India in November. Janpram encourages everyone to exercise for strength and health, emphasizing the social benefits of working out with friends.
