Thanksgiving Travel Surge: Health Officials Warn of Respiratory Illnesses Rise
Thanksgiving Travel and Health Risks
Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel weeks in the United States. Many families will gather across the country to celebrate the holiday.
Health experts are preparing for a rise in respiratory illnesses following Thanksgiving gatherings. Dr. Frank LoVecchio, an emergency room physician, warns that just one person with the flu at a dinner could infect eight to nine others.
This season, health officials report an increase in various illnesses, including COVID-19, RSV, flu, and the common cold. The Arizona Department of Health Services confirms 3,484 flu cases this season, marking a nearly 20% rise compared to the previous year.
Dr. LoVecchio suggests that it is still possible to get flu and COVID-19 vaccines before the holiday gatherings. He encourages people to stay updated on vaccinations, remain home if sick, wash hands regularly, and avoid close contact with sick individuals.
Stay informed and protect yourself this holiday season.
