The 139th General Assembly of the Central Council for Education was held
On August 27, the 139th General Assembly of the Central Council for Education was held, and Chairman Arase handed over a report entitled “Comprehensive measures to improve the environment to secure high-quality teachers to lead the ‘Reiwa-era Japanese school education’” to Minister Moriyama.
This report was compiled based on the public’s comments on the “Summary of Deliberations” compiled by a special committee of the Central Council for Education, which had widely solicited comments from the public. The report included recommendations, along with a roadmap, on specific measures to comprehensively advance “further accelerating work style reform in schools,” “improving teacher treatment,” and “strengthening school guidance and management systems.”
In response to the report, Minister Moriyama said, “The report includes many policies that require legal amendments and budgetary measures. First of all, with next year’s budget request fast approaching, we will make requests that are firmly based on the contents of the report and will work to the utmost to realize the policies.”
The report states that in order to realize this reform, not only must the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, as well as other government agencies such as the national, prefectural, and municipal governments, provide strong support to teachers, but it is also important that all those involved in education take it as their own responsibility and that society as a whole support schools and teachers. It also mentions the importance of disseminating information.
