Czech Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant: Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Selected as Preferred Negotiating Partner
Czech Antitrust Authority Initiates Procedures in Response to Objections from US and France
The Czech antitrust authority has officially initiated procedures in response to objections filed by the United States and France regarding Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power’s bid for a Czech nuclear power plant project.
The Czech Antitrust Office issued a statement announcing that it had received objections from Westinghouse in the US and Electrique de France regarding the nuclear power plant construction bidding process. The authority has initiated related administrative procedures to address these concerns.
The complexity of the matter makes it unclear how long the process will take. The Czech Antitrust Office will not release further information about its progress until the results are known.
The Czech government selected Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power as the preferred bidder for the construction of a domestic nuclear power plant in July. However, Westinghouse and Electricité de France, which were eliminated in the bidding competition, protested the Czech government’s decision and filed a complaint with the Czech Antitrust Office.
The Czech government and Czech Electricity Corporation had planned to conclude negotiations with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power by March next year and build the first reactor by 2036. This objection has inevitably disrupted the plan.
