richard Gere and David Oyelowo Star in ‘The Agency’ on Paramount+

“The Agency,” a new spy thriller, features Richard Gere as James “Bosko” Bradley, the CIA London Station Chief. The series, now streaming on Paramount+, also stars David Oyelowo and Michael Fassbender.
Gere said he grounded his performance by focusing on authenticity, despite playing a professional liar. Oyelowo and Gere have both spoken about how their interest in real-world politics informed their performances in “The Agency.” Oyelowo said that after the election,he and Gere met with the show’s creative team to help shape their characters.
Oyelowo plays Deputy Station Chief Henry Ogletree, described as a mentor to the series’ protagonist. Fassbender stars as CIA Agent Brandon “Martian” Colby, who returns home after a long mission in Ethiopia. Jodie Turner-Smith plays Dr. Samia Zahir, whose reemergence threatens to unravel their shared past.

Turner-Smith said her character begins as an idealist, not yet exposed to the deeper lies of the world. She added that Samia approaches her path with a certain innocence.
Gere praised the cast’s chemistry and the writing, noting that each character brings a different energy to the show.He said the actors were trained observers, constantly reading each other’s body language and emotions.
Gere said,“We’re all observers. We’re trained to be observers. And so there’s always a pretty extreme subtlety that goes on in all the communications here. We’re looking at each other’s body language. How is the mind working? Where’s that emotion? What’s the flick of the eyes? What’s going on? We’re reading each other all the time.”
