Argentina to Play Friendly Match in Kerala, Football Academy to be Established
Thiruvananthapuram – In a significant development for football enthusiasts in Kerala, Sports Minister V Abdurrahiman has expressed his willingness to bring the Argentine national team to the state for a friendly match. Additionally, a football academy is set to be established in Kerala, marking a major boost to the state’s sports infrastructure.
A high-level delegation of Argentine football officials is scheduled to visit Kochi in the first week of November to inspect the stadium and assess its suitability for the proposed friendly match. Kochi has been chosen as the preferred venue due to its capacity to accommodate a large number of spectators. Initially, Malappuram was considered, but it was eventually ruled out due to seating constraints.
The estimated cost of hosting the match is expected to exceed ₹100 crores. However, the state government is committed to making every effort to make the event a success. The Sports Minister has expressed optimism about the prospects of hosting the match, which is expected to provide a significant fillip to the sports economy in Kerala.
