The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Trilogy is returning to theaters in January 2026 for a special 25th-anniversary re-release, offering fans a chance to experience Peter Jackson’s iconic films on the big screen with enhanced formats and exclusive merchandise.
Fathom Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures announced the event on December 5, 2025, confirming that the extended editions of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King will be shown in participating theaters across two weekends: January 16–18 and January 23–25, 2026.
The re-release coincides with the 25th anniversary of the original theatrical debut of The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001, marking a significant milestone for the franchise that reshaped fantasy filmmaking and cultivated a global fanbase over the past quarter-century.
Select theaters will offer D-BOX motion seat presentations during the opening weekend (January 16–18), providing synchronized seat movement that enhances key action sequences such as battles and chases for a more immersive viewing experience.
As part of the celebration, limited-edition concession vessels will be available, including collectible popcorn buckets. Participating AMC Theatres locations will offer a “Collectible Map Tin” complete with a Quest Magnet Set, while Regal and select independent theaters will sell a “One Ring” design tin featuring the iconic inscription from the franchise.
A special 25th-anniversary logo and trailer have been released to promote the event, with Fathom Entertainment emphasizing the emotional resonance of revisiting the films in a theatrical setting alongside fellow fans.
Tickets are currently on sale through Fathom Entertainment and participating theater box offices, with the distributor encouraging audiences to “go there and back again” as a communal cinematic experience.
