The Weight of “The Matrix” and Feelings of ⁢Appropriation

Lilly Wachowski recently ⁤appeared on the So True with Caleb Hearon podcast, where she openly discussed her complex feelings about the legacy of “The Matrix.” She expressed a sense that the film’s themes and imagery had been co-opted and used in ways ‍that fundamentally altered their original intent.

“I didn’t even‍ want to make a sequel,” Wachowski stated, as reported by Dark Horizons. “I got to the point where I was like, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore.’ And⁤ then, when people started ⁢appropriating the ideas of the Matrix, and using it to ‍justify their own beliefs, it just became really challenging.”
