Table of Contents
Universal and Blumhouse’s upcoming reimagining of “The Mummy” has a new title and a chilling official synopsis, signaling a shift towards a more focused horror approach.
From Action-Adventure to Horror
Previous attempts to reboot “The Mummy” have yielded mixed results. Brendan Fraser’s 1999 take was a critical and commercial success, while Tom Cruise’s 2017 iteration failed to resonate wiht audiences. The 1999 film grossed over $415 million worldwide, while the 2017 film earned approximately $409 million.
This new project, spearheaded by “Evil Dead Rise” director Lee Cronin, aims for a different path, mirroring the success of Universal’s recent monster reboots like “The Invisible Man” (2020) and ”Wolfman” (2024) by prioritizing a lower-budget, horror-centric approach.
“The Resurrected” – A New Story
The reboot has been officially retitled “The Resurrected,” according to DanielRPK, a film industry scooper. The official synopsis reads:
“After his missing daughter mysteriously returns eight years later, a father discovers she carries the spirit of an ancient Egyptian mummy, and as the evil spreads to his other child, he must perform a deadly ritual to save them, even if it means becoming the monster himself.”
This narrative focuses on a familial struggle against an ancient evil, a departure from the large-scale adventure of previous installments.
