From Action-Adventure to Horror

Previous‍ attempts to reboot “The Mummy” have ⁢yielded mixed results. ‌Brendan⁣ Fraser’s 1999 take was a critical and ⁤commercial⁤ success, while Tom Cruise’s 2017 iteration failed to resonate wiht audiences. The 1999 film ‍ grossed ‍over $415 million worldwide,⁤ while the 2017 film earned approximately $409 million.

This new project, spearheaded by “Evil Dead⁣ Rise” director Lee Cronin, aims for a different path, mirroring the success of Universal’s⁤ recent ‌monster reboots like “The Invisible Man” (2020) and ⁣”Wolfman” (2024) by prioritizing ⁤a lower-budget, horror-centric approach.

“The Resurrected” – A New Story

The reboot has been officially retitled “The Resurrected,” according to DanielRPK, a film industry scooper.‌ The official synopsis reads:

“After his ‌missing daughter⁣ mysteriously⁢ returns eight years later, a father discovers she carries the spirit of an ancient Egyptian mummy, and as ⁢the evil spreads ‍to his other child, he must ‌perform a deadly ritual to save them, even if it means becoming the monster himself.”

This narrative focuses on a⁢ familial⁢ struggle against an ancient evil, a⁣ departure from the large-scale adventure of previous installments.

Cast and Production Details

The film stars Jack Reynor,Laia Costa,Veronica Falcón,May Calamawy, and May Elghety. Lee Cronin wrote⁣ the script and recently announced that principal photography had concluded. Cronin’s announcement on X ‌(formerly‌ Twitter) confirmed the⁢ wrap of filming.

The project is being produced by James Wan, Jason Blum, and John ‍Keville. Wan is known for his work on the “Conjuring” universe, Blum for his Blumhouse Productions specializing in horror, and Keville for his contributions to various horror and thriller films.

Release Date

“The Resurrected” is currently scheduled‍ for release on April 17, 2026. This places it within⁣ a competitive spring release window, perhaps facing‌ competition from ⁢other major studio releases.
