I wanted to tell the story of the brothers and the band, but just as important, the story of the fans whose lives the music has touched and sometimes changed forever. It is also the story of how music and songwriting can unite generations, cultures, countries and in a time of spite and division, give us all some reason to hope.
Director Steven Wright
The 2025 reunion ended a 16-year hiatus for the Manchester-based rock band. The return was announced by Noel and Liam Gallagher with the statement: The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.
The timing of the film’s release follows the duo’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026.
Formed in 1991, Oasis became a defining act of the Britpop era. The original lineup featured Liam Gallagher on lead vocals, Paul Arthurs on guitar, Paul McGuigan on bass, and Tony McCarroll on drums, with Noel Gallagher joining shortly after to take over songwriting duties and lead guitar.
The band’s early commercial success was marked by the 1994 release of their debut album, Definitely Maybe
, which became the fastest-selling debut album in British history at the time of its release. This was followed in 1995 by (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?
, an album that solidified their global influence and placed them at the center of a highly publicized media rivalry with the band Blur, known as the Battle of Britpop
.
Despite their massive success throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, the relationship between the Gallagher brothers was characterized by public volatility, eventually leading to the band’s split in 2009. Following the separation, Noel Gallagher formed Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, while Liam Gallagher fronted Beady Eye before pursuing a solo career.
The documentary arrives as a record of the band’s most anticipated comeback, capturing the emotional impact of the 2025 performances. Theater listings for the September 11 release have not yet been announced.
