‘The Office’ spinoff ‘The Paper’ Coming to Peacock This September
Updated May 29, 2025
Fans of The Office have something new to look forward to. Peacock is set to release The Paper, a spinoff series, in September. The show will feature oscar Nuñez, reprising his role as Oscar Martinez.
The new series shifts the setting from Dunder Mifflin to a struggling newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. Greg Daniels, former showrunner for The Office, described the premise at a recent presentation. He said the show centers on Domhnall Gleeson’s character, who attempts to revive the paper with a limited budget, relying on untrained staff as volunteer reporters.
Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott in the original series, confirmed he will not be appearing in The Paper. “I will be watching but I will not be showing up,” Carell said. “It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that.” He added that he is excited about the concept and praised Gleeson, with whom he worked on The Patient.
Meanwhile, Jenna Fischer, who co-hosted the Office Ladies podcast, recently shared her thoughts on the later seasons of The Office. She believes the show remained strong even after Carell’s departure in 2011. ”It’s really good the whole time,” Fischer said, disputing the notion that the show declined in quality after season seven. She noted that some of her favorite episodes were in seasons eight and nine.
What’s next
As September approaches, anticipation builds for The Paper. Fans are eager to see how the new setting and characters will capture the spirit of the Office, even without some of the original cast members.
