For two seasons now, The Pitt has left fans clamoring for a season or spinoff focused on the night shift and, for two seasons now, has denied us.

Despite ongoing fan enthusiasm for a night shift-centered series, series star and executive producer Noah Wyle has addressed the possibility directly, stating that while anything is possible, a spinoff is not probable at this time. In an interview with Deadline published April 17, 2026, Wyle emphasized that the show’s current structure intentionally includes the night shift staff in limited but meaningful ways, and that expanding their presence into a standalone series is not under active consideration.

Series creator R. Scott Gemmill echoed this sentiment, noting that while he appreciates the unique dynamic the night shift brings to the series, he values featuring them in their current capacity rather than developing a spinoff. “I like touching base with the night shift when we can because it’s a whole different dynamic,” Gemmill said in the same Deadline interview.

The night shift personnel have appeared primarily during shift changes — early or late in episodes — when day and night staff overlap. Over the course of two seasons, fans have grown attached to characters like Dr. Jack Abbott, portrayed by Shawn Hatosy, and Dr. Parker Ellis, played by Ayesha Harris, whose limited screen time has only heightened interest in their stories.

Hatosy previously expressed interest in exploring a night shift spinoff, telling People in early April 2026 that such a project could offer “cool, interesting things” with the show’s tone, describing the night team as “a certain kind of misfits that work together at night.” Similarly, Harris was promoted to series regular for Season 3, marking a shift in her character’s role from the night shift to the day shift, allowing for greater visibility in upcoming episodes.

Gemmill confirmed that Harris’s character, Dr. Ellis, will be working days in Season 3, a change intended to let audiences see more of her character. This transition underscores the show’s current focus on integrating night shift characters into the primary narrative rather than isolating them in a separate series.

While talk of a night shift spinoff has persisted throughout Season 2 — fueled by new additions like Dr. Crus Henderson (Luke Tennie) and Dr. Toomarian (Sofia Hasmik), as well as Nurse Diaz (Jalen Thomas Brooks) transferring to the night shift — the creative leadership has consistently indicated that the show’s real-time format and ensemble balance are best served by maintaining the current structure.

As of April 2026, no official plans for a The Pitt night shift spinoff have been announced, and both Wyle and Gemmill have clarified that while the idea is intriguing, it remains unlikely in the near future. Fans hoping for more night time on The Pitt will need to continue finding those moments in the existing day-shift-centered episodes.
