V8 engine did not require rebuilding
Bentley spokespeople Wayne Bruce and Mike Thayer asked then-CEO Adrian Hallmark to look at the warehouse. “He was angry about his condition. That was one of the reasons we decided to revive him.” Thayer explains.
After confirming the information internally, an inexperienced team began restoring this 1965 Bentley T1 in October 2016. However, it turned out that another job had taken priority and it had been put on hold.
“We decided that it needed a lot of work. To complete it, we needed the help of our partner company P&A Wood, which specializes in restoring our models.” However, after disassembling it, it appears that no full-scale work was necessary.
“To my surprise, the engine didn’t need to be rebuilt. When I poured gasoline into it, it started almost immediately.” Thayer laughs. Still, a parts truck was prepared to completely finish the rare first T1.
The body was returned to bare metal and rust was thoroughly removed. Finished in the original Shell Gray. Replace mechanical parts that are expected to deteriorate. Leather was used for the ceiling lining, just like the original.
Truly the first vehicle in the model series
“The details of its history are still unknown, but there is no doubt that it existed in America. It rolled off the line before the first Silver Shadow, so it really is the first vehicle in this model series.”
“At the dealership launch event, it would have been displayed alongside a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow painted in Regal Red. We believe it was also used in the 1965 press photo. Exhibited at a motor show. It is unclear.” Bruce continues.
Bentley T series restoration work“The line-off was September 28, 1965. The British motor show was held in October, so it is possible that it was exhibited. The original number plate was 85TU. On the other hand, 1900TU was also used for filming the T series. We thought it was appropriate for this car.”
“From what I heard, my two predecessors, Richard Charlesworth, purchased it from an old woman in Beverly Hills, USA.” and Bruce. “Jesus!”. Thayer strongly agrees.
“Although a considerable amount of money was spent on this car, it is extremely important as the first monocoque Bentley. Also, there is no denying that it is a Rolls-Royce with the Bentley emblem. The seatbelt buckles also feature the RR It has a logo on it.”
“It’s a precious piece of history. It has important meaning for me and Bruce. I’m looking forward to the day when many people can appreciate how the DNA of design has changed. Masu”. Thayer continues.
