Ukrainian developer Frogwares has officially confirmed that The Sinking City 2, the highly anticipated sequel to their acclaimed Lovecraftian survival horror game, will debut in Summer 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement marks a shift from the game’s earlier roadmap, which had previously targeted a 2025 release, and reflects the studio’s commitment to delivering a polished, immersive experience set in a flooded, monster-infested version of 1920s Arkham.

The game represents a significant evolution for Frogwares, transitioning from the investigative, puzzle-driven gameplay of the original to a full-fledged survival horror experience. Players will take on the role of Calvin Rafferty, an occult adventurer whose girlfriend Faye has been trapped in a mysterious sleep after a failed ritual. The story unfolds as Calvin navigates the ruins of Arkham, both on foot and by boat, battling eldritch creatures known as the Slither and uncovering the dark secrets of a city overrun by cults and supernatural horrors.

Resource scarcity and strategic inventory management are central to the gameplay, forcing players to make difficult choices about what to carry and how to survive in a world where danger lurks around every corner. The game’s atmosphere is further enhanced by its Lovecraftian setting, blending psychological horror with visceral combat, and exploration.

Frogwares has also shared a new gameplay trailer, offering a glimpse into the game’s direction and the challenges players can expect. The studio’s Game Director, Alexander Gresko, has described investigation as “a beneficial layer” rather than the core loop, emphasizing that combat, survival, and exploration will take priority in this sequel.

The delay to Summer 2026 was attributed to ongoing challenges, including the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the development team. Despite these obstacles, Frogwares remains focused on delivering a high-quality product that honors the legacy of the original The Sinking City while pushing the boundaries of survival horror.

For fans of the genre, The Sinking City 2 promises to be a standout title, offering a blend of narrative depth, atmospheric horror, and challenging gameplay mechanics. The game’s release will be a significant event for the industry, marking the return of a studio known for its innovative approach to storytelling and immersive game design.

As the Summer 2026 release date approaches, players can look forward to more updates, trailers, and possibly a return to Kickstarter for additional funding and community engagement. The anticipation for The Sinking City 2 continues to grow, with the game poised to leave a lasting impact on the survival horror genre.
