Searchlight Pictures has released the trailer for “The Testament of Ann Lee,” a past drama musical film scheduled to open in select cinemas on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.
Filmmakers and creative Team
Norwegian filmmaker Mona Fastvold, known for directing “The World to Come,” directs the film. she co-wrote the screenplay with her partner, Brady Corbet.
Fastvold and Corbet previously collaborated on the scripts for Corbet’s films “The Brutalist,” ”The Childhood of a Leader,” and “Vox Lux.” The film also features choreography by Celia Rowlson-Hall and an original score by Oscar-winning composer Daniel Blumberg.
Storyline and Cast
“The Testament of Ann Lee” is based on the life of Ann Lee,the founder of the Shakers,a devotional sect known for its unique religious practices.
Oscar nominee Amanda Seyfried stars as Ann Lee, portraying her as a leader who advocated for gender and social equality and was deeply revered by her followers. The film aims to depict ”the ecstasy and agony of her quest to build a utopia” through reimagined Shaker hymns transformed into elaborate singing and dancing sequences.
The cast also includes Thomasin McKenzie, Lewis Pullman, Tim Blake Nelson, Christopher Abbott, Stacy Martin, Matthew Beard, Scott Handy, Viola Prettejohn, Jamie Bogyo, and David Cale.
