The Impact of Physical Appearance on Remarriage
Results of a survey by marriage information companies OnlyU and Viennarae: Men (30.2%) and women (33.3%) ranked ‘wrinkles’ and ’obesity’ as top issues
When individuals who have previously been married, also known as ‘dolsing’ (returned singles), go on a blind date for remarriage, what aspect of their partner’s appearance often leaves them feeling disappointed? According to a recent survey, men are most disappointed by ‘wrinkles’ on a woman’s face, while women are most disappointed by a man’s ‘obesity’.

The survey, conducted by matchmaking companies OnlyU and Viennarae, gathered responses from 516 divorced men and women (258 men and 258 women) between the 16th and 21st of September. When asked about the aspects of appearance that often disappoint them when choosing a remarriage partner, men ranked ‘wrinkles’ (30.2%), ‘aftereffects of plastic surgery’ (25.7%), ‘obesity’ (21.3%), and ‘hair loss/gray hair’ (14.3%) as their top concerns. Women, on the other hand, ranked ‘obesity’ (33.3%), ‘hair loss/gray hair’ (25.2%), ‘shortness’ (21.7%), and ‘wrinkles’ (16.7%) as their top concerns.
Son Dong-gyu, CEO of OnlyU, emphasized the importance of physical appearance in choosing a remarriage partner, stating, “In a world that values visual factors, each person should take care of their appearance.”

When asked how their second marriage partner’s good looks would affect their married life, both men and women chose “We’ll go out together more often” as the most likely outcome (32.6% for men and 31.4% for women). Men also believed that their self-esteem would increase (26.7%) and that their love would last a long time (22.5%). Women, on the other hand, believed that their love would last a long time (27.1%) and that their self-esteem would increase (24.8%).
