The vivienne’s Death Ruled Misadventure After Ketamine Use
An inquest concluded that the death of James Lee Williams, known as The Vivienne, was the result of misadventure. The coroner’s finding followed Williams’ death after taking ketamine.
Williams, 32, won the first series of “rupaul’s drag Race UK” in 2019. The performer was found dead at their Cheshire home Jan. 5. The family revealed in March that ketamine use led to cardiac arrest, aiming to raise awareness of the drug’s dangers.
The inquest,which opened in February,heard Williams was found in the bathroom of their home in Chorlton-by-backford,near Chester. police reported no suspicious circumstances.
The funeral in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire, North Wales, drew fellow “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK” contestants Tia Kofi and Baga Chipz, along with Ian ”H” Watkins of steps, TV personality Kim Woodburn, and “Coronation Street” actress Claire Sweeney.
During “rupaul’s Drag race,” Williams spoke about battling drug addiction for four years.
“It was party, drugs, but I couldn’t leave the drugs at the party, it was constant for me,” Williams said, describing the addiction as “a habit that caught on a bit too fast and a bit too hard.”
The TV personality, originally from Colwyn Bay, North Wales, finished third in “Dancing On ice” in 2023.
Williams also performed as the Wicked Witch of the West in ”The Wizard Of Oz” musical,including a West End run at the Gillian Lynne Theater.The performer was scheduled to appear as the Childcatcher in “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” a role previously held last year.

Amid rising illegal ketamine use, the government is seeking expert advice. The Home Office reports that approximately 299,000 people aged 16 to 59 used the substance in the year ending March 2023. ketamine is classified as a Class B controlled substance.
