SSFF & ASIA 2025 Shortlist
(Nomination candidates) Announcing the first round! !
2024/10/31
CREATORS, FILM FESTIVAL, HOME
Every month, we will announce a shortlist of nominees from among the works submitted in the Live Action, Animation, and Non-Fiction categories that will lead to the Academy Awards at Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2025.
A total of 845 works were submitted in August. The top five countries with the most applications were the United States, China, France, Canada, and Spain, with applications also coming from unusual countries such as Guyana, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Venezuela, and Costa Rica. Thirty percent of all films are directed by women, 34% are first-time directors, 30% are student films, 58% are under 15 minutes, 28% are under 10 minutes, and 9% are under 5 minutes. The works also stood out. As in previous years, there were a large number of dramas, many of which dealt with themes such as family issues, illness, discrimination, immigration and refugee issues, and identity. Also, in the animation department, there were many works that utilized AI, and I got the impression that the use of AI is expanding in a wide range of areas, including not only animation, but also voice over, music, storyboards in pre-production, and color correction in post-production. .
