The Wingfeather Saga Season 4: Cast Revealed & Production Update | Animation World Network

The Wingfeather Saga Season 4: Cast Revealed & Production Update | Animation World Network

February 25, 2026 Marcus Rodriguez - Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Angel Studios is bolstering the voice cast for the fourth season of its animated adventure, The Wingfeather Saga, with the addition of Academy Award-winning actor Jim Broadbent. The announcement signals continued momentum for the series, which recently moved to Angel after a successful run and a significant crowdfunding effort.

Broadbent, known for his roles in Game of Thrones and the Harry Potter film series, will portray Bonifer Squoon in the upcoming season. He joins a returning ensemble that includes Jodi Benson, Kevin McNally, Alkaio Thiele, Romy Faye, and Henry Witcher. The new season is slated to premiere on Angel later this year, following the debut of Season 3 this past November.

Based on the beloved books by Andrew Peterson, The Wingfeather Saga follows the Igiby family as they navigate a fantastical world filled with danger and discovery. The story centers on their journey to uncover family secrets, evade the menacing Fangs of Dang, and find their place in a world threatened by the enigmatic ruler, Gnag the Nameless. The narrative weaves together themes of family, courage, and the power of believing in something greater than oneself.

The series has resonated deeply with audiences, becoming the largest crowdfunded animated family series ever, having raised over $8.2 million from more than 10,000 investors. This level of fan engagement underscores the unique appeal of the property and its ability to connect with viewers on a personal level. The move to Angel Studios, a platform known for its community-driven approach to content creation, appears to be a strategic fit for the series.

The acquisition by Angel Studios, according to executive producer and showrunner J. Chris Wall, “ensures its long-term success.” Wall expressed gratitude for Angel’s support as the team works towards bringing the story to its “epic conclusion.” The production team remains based in Nashville, Tennessee, and is fully engaged in the development of Season 4, with a targeted release in Fall 2026.

Beyond the narrative and character additions, The Wingfeather Saga is notable for its innovative production pipeline. Shining Isle Productions, the Nashville-based animation studio behind the series, has developed proprietary tools and utilizes cutting-edge game-engine technology from Unreal Engine. This approach allows for a distinctive visual style that blends the richness of traditional animation with the flexibility of computer-generated imagery.

Wall explained that the decision to pursue a non-photorealistic aesthetic was deliberate. “Not wanting to compete with the ‘Pixar’ look or the drive towards photoreal animation,” he said. The team, led by Head of Studio Keith Lango, championed an approach that prioritizes imagination and invites audience engagement through a cohesive, abstract style. This is achieved through hand-painted CG textures and a deliberate animation style on “2s” – a technique that evokes the feel of classic 2D animation and contributes to the series’ “storybook” quality.

This stylistic choice, Wall believes, will lend the series a timeless visual quality while still allowing for nuanced character performances that are enabled by CG animation. It’s a calculated balance between artistic vision and technological capability, resulting in a unique and captivating viewing experience.

The first three seasons of The Wingfeather Saga are currently available on Angel.com and through the Angel app, accessible on a variety of platforms including iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Vizio, and others. The availability across multiple platforms reflects Angel Studios’ commitment to reaching a broad audience and fostering a community around its content.

The addition of Jim Broadbent to the cast adds further prestige to a series that has already captured the hearts of many. As The Wingfeather Saga moves into its fourth season, it continues to demonstrate the power of storytelling, community support, and innovative animation techniques. The series’ success story serves as a compelling example of how independent animation can thrive in a competitive landscape, particularly when paired with a dedicated platform like Angel Studios.
