Evidence is mounting that CD Projekt Red is preparing a substantial new DLC for 2015‘s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, potentially as a bridge to the upcoming The Witcher 4. While the Polish developer has yet to officially announce any expansion, a combination of data mining and financial analysis suggests a release in 2026 is increasingly likely.

Rumors of a third expansion have circulated for weeks, fueled by reports from individuals claiming inside knowledge of CD Projekt Red’s plans. These sources indicate the DLC will set the stage for events leading into the next mainline Witcher title, offering players a new chapter in the established universe. However, until recently, concrete evidence remained elusive.

A recent analysis of SteamDB, the platform tracking changes to Steam’s backend, has revealed activity suggesting ongoing development of “new content” for The Witcher 3. According to a post on Twitter by user @VibeCoderPL, the files discovered include scripts and dialogue, with a size that aligns with a larger expansion rather than a simple patch. The user’s analysis points to regular updates to the game since the beginning of February 2026, interpreted as final preparations before a major release.

Adding weight to the speculation is the discovery of references to a full Chinese dub within the game files. The analyst notes that investing in a complete dub is a significant undertaking, typically reserved for projects expected to generate substantial commercial returns – particularly for a title like The Witcher 3, which continues to sell millions of copies even a decade after its initial release.

Beyond the technical indicators, financial factors are also contributing to the anticipation. CD Projekt Red has publicly announced an “ambitious revenue target” for the years 2026–2029. Analysts believe a successful DLC release for The Witcher 3 is crucial for the company to meet its financial goals and achieve bonus targets for 2026.

The existing DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, released in 2015 and 2016 respectively, offered approximately 10-12 and 15 hours of new content, respectively. The data suggests the upcoming expansion may be comparable in scope to Blood and Wine, indicating a substantial addition to the game’s already expansive world.

Interestingly, a separate development within the Witcher universe has recently come to light. A post on Reddit’s r/witcher forum discusses Ciri’s transformation into a witcher, as revealed in a new trailer. The post details how Ciri successfully underwent the Trial of the Grasses, a brutal process historically reserved for orphaned boys. The author explains that Ciri’s survival is attributed to her exceptional physiology, mirroring Geralt’s own experience, and doesn’t negatively impact established lore. While seemingly unrelated to the DLC, this development suggests CD Projekt Red is actively expanding the narrative possibilities within the Witcher world, potentially laying groundwork for future storylines.

While CD Projekt Red remains tight-lipped, the converging evidence – from SteamDB activity and Chinese dubbing preparations to financial targets and the ongoing expansion of the narrative – strongly suggests that a new chapter for Geralt and his world is on the horizon. The release of this DLC could serve as a significant stepping stone, not only for fans eager for more Witcher content but also for the company as it prepares to launch its next major RPG.
