Therapist Shoplifting Case Linked to Gaza – Judge’s Criticism
Judge Slams “Abuse of Suffering” in Theft Case, Offers stark Advice
Courtroom Clash: Judge’s Sharp Rebuke too Defendant Citing Hardship
In a striking courtroom exchange, judge watkin delivered a firm rebuke to a defendant who attempted to justify the theft of groceries and clothing by citing her own difficult circumstances. The judge unequivocally stated that using people’s suffering as an excuse for stealing is an “abuse of people who are suffering.”
When the defendant, identified as Byrne, questioned what she was “meant to do,” Judge Watkin offered a pointed suggestion: if her feelings about the situation were so strong, it would be better to simply avoid shopping at that particular establishment altogether.
Byrne, who identified herself as a self-employed therapist, then stated that her clients were “all in the same position” as her. This assertion was met with a direct disagreement from the judge.”No, they’re not,” Judge Watkin stated firmly. “They’re not standing here in court being charged with theft.”
The judge concluded the proceedings by imposing a €500 fine on Byrne, granting her six months to settle the payment.
