Thibau Nys Dominates Tábor World Cup
Tábor, Czech Republic – Thibau Nys delivered a commanding performance at the frist round of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Tábor on Sunday, showcasing a level of fitness that set him well apart from his competitors.
Despite the absence of Mathieu van der Poel, Nys rode at a “next-level” pace on the fast, frozen, and technically challenging course. He built a lead of over half a minute, ultimately easing off on the final lap to celebrate his victory, finishing eight seconds ahead of Laurens Sweeck (Crelan-Corendon). Joris Nieuwenhuis (Ridley Racing Team) secured third place, just two seconds behind Sweeck, with jente Michels (Alpecin-Deceuninck) finishing fourth.
Nys, son of cyclocross legend Sven Nys, benefits from a dual road and cyclocross background, similar to Van der Poel, giving him a critically important physical advantage. He described feeling strong enough to sprint from corner to corner and immediately seizing the opportunity to take the lead. This win marks the third World Cup victory of his career.
“I had the feeling already yesterday during the recon that I could sprint from corner to corner,” Nys said after the race. “Then when I watched the races this morning I saw that it was really challenging to get an advantage. But I immediately felt the good legs and I went for it.”
